Procedures
Eligibility
The Anointing of the Sick is available to:
- Those suffering from a serious illness or chronic condition
- Elderly individuals who are notably weakened, even if no serious illness is present
- Those preparing for major surgery
- Individuals experiencing a significant decline in health.
Requesting the Sacrament
To request the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the parish office. The sacrament can be administered at the church, in a hospital, or at the individual’s home.
The following steps are typically followed:
- Contact the Parish Office: Call or visit the parish office to schedule an appointment.
- Provide Details: Share the name, condition, and location of the person to be anointed.
- Schedule a Visit: Arrange a convenient time for the priest to visit and administer the sacrament.
The Rite of Anointing
The Anointing of the Sick includes the following elements:
- Greeting and Prayer: The priest greets the sick person and offers prayers for their healing and comfort.
- Laying on of Hands: The priest lays his hands on the head of the sick person, invoking the Holy Spirit’s presence.
- Anointing with Oil: The priest anoints the forehead and hands of the sick person with blessed oil, saying, “Through this holy anointing, may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit.”
- Prayer of Healing: The priest prays for the physical and spiritual healing of the sick person.
Follow-Up
After receiving the sacrament, it is encouraged to continue praying and seeking spiritual support. The parish community is here to offer ongoing assistance and comfort.
