Genesis 2:24

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

Introduction

Matrimony is a sacred sacrament in the Catholic Church, symbolizing the union of a man and a woman in a lifelong commitment of love and faith. At Sto. Niño de Taguig Parish, we are honored to assist couples in preparing for and celebrating this important milestone.

Procedures

Registration

Couples who wish to get married must register at the parish office at least six months before the desired wedding date. The following documents are required:

  • New Baptismal and Confirmation Certificates: Both parties must provide updated certificates with the annotation “FOR MARRIAGE PURPOSES ONLY.”
  • Marriage License: Obtain this from the Local Civil Registrar of your city or municipality.
  • Canonical Interview: Schedule and attend an interview with the parish priest to discuss your readiness and commitment to marriage.

Pre-Cana Seminar

Both the bride and groom are required to attend a Pre-Cana Seminar, which is a marriage preparation course. This seminar covers essential topics such as communication, family planning, and the spiritual aspects of marriage. It is typically held over a weekend or several sessions.

Wedding Banns

The Wedding Banns are announcements made in the church for three consecutive Sundays before the wedding. This is to ensure that there are no impediments to the marriage. The forms for the banns will be provided during the canonical interview and must be returned after the announcements.

Sponsors

Couples must choose their principal sponsors (ninongs and ninangs) who will serve as witnesses and spiritual mentors. The church requires the names and addresses of at least two sponsors, but more can be included.

Ceremony

The Sacrament of Matrimony is celebrated within a Nuptial Mass or a simple wedding ceremony, depending on the couple’s preference. The ceremony includes the exchange of vows, the blessing and exchange of rings, and the nuptial blessing.

Dress Code

Proper church decorum is expected during the wedding ceremony. Brides and grooms should dress modestly and appropriately for the sacred occasion. Guests are also encouraged to dress respectfully.

Photo Taking

Photography is allowed during the wedding ceremony, but it should be done discreetly and without disrupting the solemnity of the event. Couples are advised to coordinate with the parish office regarding any specific guidelines for photographers.
