Matthew 28:19

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Introduction

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is the highest consultative and pastoral body within Sto. Niño de Taguig Parish. It plays a crucial role in planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the pastoral programs and activities of the parish. The PPC works closely with the Parish Priest to ensure that the spiritual and pastoral needs of the community are met.

Purpose

The PPC is a representative body that reflects the diverse groups and organizations within the parish. It is pastoral in nature, focusing on the spiritual growth and development of the parish community. The council’s primary purpose is to assist the Parish Priest in discerning and implementing the parish mission, in line with the priorities of the Archdiocese and the universal Church.

Functions

The PPC has several key functions:

  1. Mission Statement: Facilitate the process of discovering, identifying, and promulgating the parish mission statement.
  2. Pastoral Planning: Recommend administrative, pastoral, and developmental plans and programs to address the needs of the parish community.
  3. Advisory Role: Advise the Parish Priest on pastoral actions and decisions.
  4. Evaluation: Review and evaluate the implementation of pastoral plans and programs.
  5. Data Gathering: Collect relevant data to inform planning, evaluation, and recommendations.
  6. Community Engagement: Encourage parishioners to express their views on matters concerning the parish, fostering a spirit of dialogue and fraternal correction.

Membership

The PPC is composed of at least 15 members, including:

  • Parish Priest: The president of the PPC, who holds authority and responsibility over the parish.
  • Assistant Parish Priests: If any, they support the Parish Priest in pastoral duties.
  • Chairpersons of Parish Commissions: Leaders of various parish commissions.
  • Head of the Catholic School: If there is a Catholic school within the parish.
  • BEC Coordinator: A representative from the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC).

The remaining members are elected or appointed by the Parish Priest after consultation with parishioners. Members serve a term of two years and may be reappointed or reelected for a second term.

Parish Pastoral Officers

The Parish Pastoral Officers (PPO) form the executive committee within the PPC. They assist the Parish Priest in managing the PPC and include:

  • Lay Coordinator: Presides over PPC meetings, ensures implementation of PPC policies, and represents the PPC in vicariate and diocesan meetings.
  • Assistant Lay Coordinator: Assists the Lay Coordinator and assumes their role in their absence.
  • Secretary: Records meeting proceedings, maintains an accurate directory of officers and members, and handles official communications.
  • Treasurer: Manages the financial affairs of the PPC, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Meetings

The PPC meets regularly to discuss and plan parish activities and programs. Special and emergency meetings can be called as needed. The Lay Coordinator prepares the agenda and presides over these meetings, ensuring that all decisions and resolutions are implemented effectively.
