Special Liturgies
Introduction
Special liturgies are an important aspect of our faith, providing unique opportunities for the community to come together in worship and celebration. At Sto. Niño de Taguig Parish, we observe various special liturgies throughout the year, each with its own significance and traditions.
Holy Week
Holy Week is the most solemn week in the Catholic liturgical calendar, commemorating the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our parish observes the following special liturgies during Holy Week:
- Palm Sunday: The celebration begins with the blessing of palms and a procession, recalling Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
- Maundy Thursday: The Mass of the Lord’s Supper includes the washing of the feet, symbolizing Jesus’ act of service and love. The liturgy concludes with the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose.
- Good Friday: The Celebration of the Lord’s Passion includes the reading of the Passion narrative, veneration of the cross, and Holy Communion. This solemn day is marked by fasting and prayer.
- Easter Vigil: The most important liturgy of the year, the Easter Vigil begins with the blessing of the new fire and the Paschal Candle. It includes the Liturgy of the Word, the blessing of water, and the celebration of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist).
Christmas Season
The Christmas season is a time of joy and celebration, marking the birth of Jesus Christ. Our parish observes the following special liturgies during this season:
- Simbang Gabi: A nine-day series of dawn Masses from December 16 to 24, preparing the faithful for Christmas. These Masses are a cherished Filipino tradition, filled with festive songs and decorations.
- Christmas Eve Mass: Also known as the “Misa de Gallo,” this midnight Mass celebrates the Nativity of the Lord.
- Christmas Day Mass: Celebrated on December 25, this Mass rejoices in the birth of Jesus and the fulfillment of God’s promise.
